U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D), representing Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District, visited CUNA Mutual Group's Madison campus on June 28, 2011. The focus of the meeting centered on the United States economy, agriculture and debt reduction. Senior leadership from CMG as well as ProAg were in attendance.

During the meeting, it was pointed out that of the $6 billion savings from Federal Crop Insurance program, $4 billion was earmarked for reduction to the national debt and $2 billion towards conservation and enhancing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) safety net. Furthermore, crop insurance has already contributed well beyond its fair share towards the debt reduction. The new SRA should be allowed to continue without any future reductions. Congressman Kind acknowledged that the contributions that ProAg and other approved insurance providers had already given, while predicting that crop insurance would continue to be a strong contributor towards the success and future of U.S. Agriculture. With the crop insurance industry, many individuals and farm organizations have voiced the need to not only maintain the programs, but augment them to protect as many farmers and ranchers as possible.

Congressman Ron Kind has represented the 3rd district, covering western Wisconsin, since 1997. His district includes bountiful farmland, as well as leading Wisconsin cities such as La Crosse and Eau Claire. Kind serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means, which is the oldest committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over Tax Measures, Public Debt, Trade and Tariff Laws, Social Security and Medicare.
