WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The climate bill nearing a vote in the U.S. House will reward farmers who plant trees or take other steps to control greenhouse gases and it will remove for five years an obstacle to corn-based ethanol, said the House Agriculture Committee chairman on Wednesday.

Climate Bill on Track for Debate Friday

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi late last night filed the Waxman-Markey climate change bill with the rules committee in hopes of bringing it to the floor by this Friday. House leaders are in negotiations with Ag Committee Chair Collin Peterson who is pushing for fewer burdens and more rewards in the climate change bill for farmers.

USDA Announces $6.45 Million in Rural Grants

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the selection of recipients for $6.45 million in grants to spur economic development and revitalization in rural communities.
