It looks like the President will sign the legislation on Friday in Michigan. When this happens, we should all remember to thank the Ag Committee leadership team of Sen. Stabenow (D-MI), Sen. Cochran (R-MS), Rep. Lucas (R-OK) and Rep. Peterson (D-MN). Plus a thank you to any of your own members of congress that voted yes. We should be aware that several friends of crop insurance such as Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) voted no on the 2014 Farm Bill for reasons not connected to crop insurance, but they still deserve our support and respect.
What happens next is we sort through the 969 pages of the legislation and figure out how this all plays out. My early review indicates that certain grower decisions will need to be made for 2014 at the FSA office. More on that later, but remember no changes for 2014 for crop insurance. It is all “steady as she goes” for this spring sales season….
Questions or comments are welcome, as always!
