Over half of the top corn-growing states in the U.S. have begun harvest. For the week ending September 10, Texas leads with 62% of its corn harvested, North Carolina comes in at 50%, and Kansas, Tennessee and Missouri round out the top five. Texas remains on pace with last year’s progress and is 6% ahead of last week.
North Carolina is ahead of its five-year average by 5%, while Kansas leads its average by 7%. Meanwhile, Tennessee is 4% behind the state’s five-year average. Illinois, Minnesota and South Dakota all report a small percentage of newly harvested corn. Nationally, USDA estimates that 5% of the corn crop has been harvested, equal to last year at this time.
