Flooding of Cotton Field After HurricaneHeavy rainfall and pending tropical storms could adversely impact harvest season in the Southern U.S. While the Corn Belt continues to see inconsistent rainfall, heavy precipitation hit the central and Western Gulf Coast states during the final full week of August. Temperature ranges remained near the historical averages for the week.

Though the rain improved drought conditions for East Texas, far southwestern Arkansas and northern Louisiana, it came on the coattails of flash flooding in vulnerable areas like Dallas, Texas and Jackson, Mississippi. As Labor Day approaches, all eyes look to tropical cyclone development in the forecast models and its potential to impact the U.S. Peak hurricane season occurs in mid-September.
