The Senate Ag Committee and national agriculture groups are applauding rural infrastructure investments from USDA. U.S. Senator Tina Smith says hundreds of millions of dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act are being distributed for basic infrastructure to underserved communities. Many of these U.S. communities that lack an adequate tax base are usually in rural areas.
Investments in infrastructure are a critical component in a robust food and supply chain, particularly for small farmers to get local foods to market. Comments from the Minnesota leaders came after a visit with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack at the Minnesota State Fair.
