Cash rents across the U.S. continue to climb amidst unrelenting farmland values and profitable commodity prices. USDA data shows Illinois hosts the most expensive cash rent in the Corn Belt for non-irrigated cropland. USDA surveyed 250,00 farmers with $1,000 or more in agricultural sales. More than 900 counties were surveyed across the Corn Belt, resulting in a listing of the Top 10 Highest Cash Rents report for 2023.
Last year, eight Illinois and two Iowa counties rounded out the top 10. This year, an additional Illinois county made the ranking. Moultrie, Piatt, Macon and Logan Counties in Illinois top the list, with Grundy County, Iowa rounding out the top five.
