Beef producers have dealt with a bleak couple of years with ongoing drought and high feed costs causing mass liquidations across the country. However, an optimistic tone rang throughout Texas A&M as the university carried out its Cattle Short Course. Cattle producers in attendance learned of the generous appetite Americans are carrying for high-grade beef – and their willingness to pay a premium for it.
The trend stands in contrast to previous decades and offers ample positives for beef producers. Higher consumer demand with the current tighter supplies means high beef prices will continue. While drought, feed costs and eventually herd rebuilding will still be a challenge in the coming years, beef cattle producers have a reason to keep their chin up moving forward.
