Angus CattleThe USDA stepped in this week to authorize 1,021 counties for emergency haying and grazing through the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). Using the U.S. Drought Monitor to assess conditions, USDA-approved counties are eligible for emergency use when they reach the monitor’s “D2 Drought – Severe” level. CRP-approved land grew by 4% (39 counties) within the week of June 17-24 to provide additional relief options. If a producer wishes to check their CRP land eligibility for emergency use they can contact their local USDA FSA County office to inquire their county’s status.
