Couple in rural America browsing the internetThe 2022 State of the Global Farmer Survey recently interviewed 645 global agricultural producers in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The annual survey seeks to highlight key producer trends and shed light on what matters most to producers globally when it comes to shaping the future of the livestock industry.

This year’s highlights from the survey include:

• Top priorities for U.S. producers synced up with global trends: improving profitability, improving herd efficiency, improving operational efficiency and grazing innovation.
• 84% of respondents stated they are already embracing digital recordkeeping as technology was rated a high priority across the board.
• 66% believe tech adoption is vital to the success of their operation
• U.S. producers led the way in selling cattle directly to consumers. 38.5% say they do vs 13% of respondants in Australia or 23% in the U.K.
• Carbon farming seems to be more talk than action as 50% say they don’t plan on entering carbon markets in the near term and only 23% say they are currently involved in a carbon market.
