As bombings and other military attacks from Russia ascend on Ukraine, U.S. farmers brace for additional inflation challenges. But that won’t be the only impact on global agriculture seen from the conflict. Russia and Ukraine account for 29% of global wheat exports, 19% of world corn exports and 80% of world sunflower exports. As a growing list of countries announce sanctions on Russia and suspend all vessel calls to Ukraine, the effects on the global agriculture supply chain remain uncertain. Global companies Cargill, ADM and Bunge have all announced closure of offices and suspending operations in Ukraine. This spring planting season will be impacted by the war, though the full effects can change daily at the start of the conflict.
