Though fieldwork is limited to things like planting cover crops and installing tile drainage in the Midwest right now, farmers in the Deep South are kicking tires and getting ready to begin planting row crops, small grains and cotton fairly soon. The challenges of 2020 are close in the rearview mirror for peanut and cotton farmers who faced extreme weather conditions along with other hindrances to productivity brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. But the optimism that characterizes the agriculture industry has farmers looking forward to getting started on the 2021 crop year. And it’s not far off for some.
