The world’s first methane-powered tractor launched by New Holland entered the market this week after being announced at the World Ag Expo in California. The T6 Methane Power can run on both methane and compressed natural gas and touts the same performance as its diesel equivalent regarding power, torque and durability. New Holland also says the tractor comes with a 30% reduction in running costs.
Farmers can use agricultural waste to generate biomethane and power the tractor to achieve near-zero carbon emissions. For livestock and dairy farmers, the sustainability goes further when they use biomethane from manure, which subtracts carbon from the environment resulting in a carbon-negative footprint.
