USDA announced $33 million in funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) designated as land-grant institutions this week. The funding will support 82 projects in sustainable farming through the agency’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
The projects range from efforts to reduce plastic use and improve vegetable nutritional values to addressing shortages in sunflower seed oil. Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres says the investments will help “deliver real-life, applicable solutions to make our food system stronger.”
