Senator Stabenow of MichiganAgricultural leaders are asking Congress to prioritize the safety net in the 2023 Farm Bill. Strengthening commodity programs was a key theme in a recent hearing held by the Senate Ag Subcommittee on Commodities, Risk Management and Trade.

Senate Ag Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) says producer feedback is a crucial component on farm bill programs. She says that of the 240 people in the House, most have never written a farm bill or even voted on a farm bill. Communicating the importance of the legislation to the success of rural America is key, says Stabenow. The Senator reports asking the Budget Committee for spending flexibility to help address the needs of farmers and ranchers.
