The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bipartisan infrastructure package late Friday night, with a vote of 228 to 206. The bill passed the Senate 69-30. Now, the legislation heads to President Biden’s desk for a much-anticipated signature that will increase infrastructure spending by a projected $550 billion over the next decade. These dollars will be allocated for roads, rural bridges, rail, and various water projects. The bill also includes $65 billion to build out broadband infrastructure critical to rural America. As port congestion remains in the headlines, the more than $17 billion allocated for ports and inland waterways is hoped to relieve long-term issues. Sustainability projects such as watershed and flood prevention conservation, as well as carbon capture programs and electric charging ports are also included in the language.
