As supply chain challenges continue to plague farmers, the Fertilizer Institute is urging the Biden administration to work with China as part of its proposed policy solutions for the industry. The organization says one of the first and most critical ways to fix the fertilizer issues is that China should begin exporting fertilizer again.

The Fertilizer Institute CEO Corey Rosenbusch says China is the largest producer of phosphates, with about 40% of world production happening in China. He also cited how one-third of nitrogen is produced in China. Rosenbusch believes fertilizer transportation could become more efficient by eliminating hours of service restrictions, modernizing weight classes and waiving certain shipping requirements.
