A letter from 258 food and agricultural groups is calling on greater transparency from the Make America Healthy Commission (MAHA). It requested input on the commission’s activities.

The letter sent to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin was coordinated by the American Soybean Association, the National Corn Growers Association, the National Oilseed Processors Association and the Corn Refiners Association.

The communication stated that the process used to create the commission’s most recent report lacked transparency and opportunities for public engagement. This resulted in numerous errors and distortions, which have created unfounded fears about the safety of our food supply.

The ag groups encouraged the administration to formally include farmers, ranchers and food producers in a collaborative process in all future work of the commission. The administration is also advised to create the opportunity for public comment on all future reports and activities.

A MAHA Commission report on policy recommendations based on the first report is due in mid-August. Ag groups hope there will be a more formal process put in place before the next report.
