The USDA Crop Progress Report indicates that the nation’s corn crop remains unchanged for the week ending August 25. Dryness in the southern and eastern corn belt continues to be a concern for filling corn and soybeans. However, the USDA estimates that 71% of the crop was in good to excellent condition nationwide. Eight percent of the crop was rated poor to very poor.

Iowa corn is reported at 84% good to excellent. Nebraska came in at 78% good to excellent and Indiana claims 63% good to excellent.

Eighty-three percent of the corn crop was estimated to be in the dough stage, while 44% was in the dented stage. Seven percent of the crop was mature, which is on track with the five-year average.

Soybean conditions improved slightly this week, with 69% of the crop rated as good to excellent. Eight percent of the soybean crop was rated very poor to poor.

Iowa reported that 79% of its soybeans are in good to excellent condition. Indiana has a 63% rating of good to excellent, and Illinois has a 58% rating of good to excellent.

Soybeans setting pods were estimated at 89%. Four percent of the soybean crop was dropping leaves. These are both on track with the five-year average.

The winter wheat harvest has reached 98% completion, which is equal to the five-year average. The spring wheat harvest is 53% complete as of Sunday. The report estimated that 49% of the remaining crop in the field was in good to excellent condition. Minnesota had the best rating at 80% good to excellent. North Dakota followed this at 68%.
