The Farm Bill cleared the House Agriculture Committee this week, advancing the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 with bipartisan support and praise from many farm organizations. The legislation passed on a 34–17 vote, with seven Democrats joining Republicans after a marathon markup session that stretched more than 20 hours.

The bill would update farm safety net programs and invest more funding in commodity programs, crop insurance and foreign market promotion while reshaping some nutrition spending. Farm groups say the legislation could provide needed policy certainty as farmers face tighter margins and rising costs. However, the proposal still must pass both the House and Senate before becoming law.
