The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) has released updates to several crop insurance policy provisions that will take effect beginning with the 2027 crop year for crops with a June 30, 2026, contract change date, and the 2028 crop year for crops with earlier contract change dates.

Key updates include:

  • Removing policy language that conflicts with the Removal of Regulatory Overreach and Federal Crop Insurance Policy Provisions final rule.
  • Automatically allowing spouses to sign applicable insurance documents.
  • Clarifying that the prevented planting “1 in 4” requirement can only be satisfied with insurable crops and reinstating the requirement nationwide.
  • Removing termination, cancellation, and end-of-insurance dates from Crop Provisions and deferring those dates to the Special Provisions.
  • Correcting language related to Good Farming Practices in the Area Risk Protection Insurance (ARPI) Basic Provisions.
  • Moving optional unit language from the Special Provisions into the applicable Crop Provisions.
  • Adding and clarifying several policy definitions.

RMA has also published updated versions of the Basic Provisions, ARPI Basic Provisions, and several Crop Provisions and endorsements, including those for Forage, Wheat, Forage Seed, Grass Seed, Small Grains, Margin Price Provisions, and the Coverage Enhancement Option (CEO).
