The U.S. sweet potato industry reduced in acreage and production in 2021 but increased in value according to USDA. Total acres harvested last year were down 2% from 2020, but 4% higher than in 2019, coming in at 152,700. North Carolina remains the top-ranked sweet potato state, with 104,700 acres harvest in 2021, followed by Mississippi and California.
Meanwhile, the nation’s sweet potato value grew 2% to $680.4 million since 2020. USDA reported fresh market value per cwt this year at $27.10, up nearly 10% from 2020.
