Since 2002, USDA has reported on mailbox prices – a dairy farm’s “take home” pay in their milk checks. Mailbox milk prices posted a record year in 2022 at $24.64 per cwt. The record boasts an additional 60 cents compared to the previous record set in 2014. Compared to last year, mailbox prices were up $6.95 per cwt, contrasting with the 2021 average of $17.69.
Accordingly, total receipts for dairy products and milk in the U.S. climbed up to a whopping $58 billion. However, the strong prices were met with record input costs and exorbitant feed costs. Compare your own mailbox prices by adding back any voluntary deductions from your milk check such as checkoff dollars, products and supplies or other assessments.
