Growers in the plains have enough concern on their plates without the threat of pests and diseases. However, as this month’s windstorms die down, Farm Journal Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie says now is the time to act on issues outside of weather impacting crop development.

Ferrie says these four topics should be top of mind:
1. The right timing for wheat fungicide and insecticide applications.
2. Black Cutworm management.
3. Corn performance related to herbicide carryover.
4. Using ear counts for yield projections.
