Farming practices in the Midwest are about to be propelled into the future thanks to a 5-year, $7 million research grant. The large sum was given to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Iowa State University engineers who will use it to create digital agriculture technologies. The grant, sponsored by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the National Science Foundation’s Cyber Physical Systems program, will help launch the COALESCE project which focuses on farm management through sensing, modeling and decision-making for individual crops. Learn more about the COALESCE system and it’s capabilities.
