The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago hosted the annual Midwest Agriculture Conference in November 2022. The event theme was Confronting Barrier to Entry into Midwest Agriculture: Stories and Policies. With an agenda focused on the importance of supporting new and beginning farmers, speakers explored trends among emerging farms.

According to Hoard’s Dairyman, market barriers like access to land and technology can often prevent new farmers from entering the industry. Access to credit is essential to overcome these challenges, but it can be difficult to come by for those new to agriculture.
