With family gatherings and holiday meals just around the corner, domestic ag products are expected to welcome the usual demand increase for Americans’ seasonal favorites. One such example, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a renewed strength to butter sales. Will that momentum continue in 2021? A press release from the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin says the butter trend will continue this holiday season – by 161 million lb, enough to bake more than 11 billion butter cookies. But the pandemic is not the only reason butter sales have increased exponentially. Over the course of 20 years, the average American has increased their butter consumption by two pounds, up to 6.3 lb. consumed in one year. This growth is expected to taper, though not below the 6 lb. mark.
The demand is welcomed news for U.S. dairy producers — and with high-quality dairy products produced and processed right here in the U.S., what could be butter?
