Bayer Crop Science announced this past week a new herbicide mode of action (MOA) for use in soybeans. The announcement presents the first truly new MOA in the herbicide-tolerant pipeline for soybeans in more than 30 years. Glyphosate was the first-generation herbicide that could be applied directly to soybeans to tackle in-season weeds in 1996.

Since then, agriculturalists and the soybean industry have spent much time and effort advocating for another MOA. Bayer says the new MOA remains unnamed and, while exciting, producers will need to wait awhile longer before its introduction to the market.
