According to data released Friday, the week ending May 13 saw little change for beef packers and cattle feeders, with an average price of $175.94/cwt for cash cattle, a $0.60/cwt moderate climb. Wholesale beef prices were down $3/cwt to an average of $303.76/cwt.
Meanwhile, farrow-to-finish hogs saw losses of $13/head last week, $7/head less than the week prior. Pork producers saw profits of $73/head the same week the previous year. Pork packer profits declined an average of $3/head last week after breaking even the previous week. Pork packer capacity was estimated at 87.4% compared to 85.6% this time last year.
