Consumer demand for fruits and vegetables fluctuates from year-to-year, and staying on top of those trends helps producers better meet demand. In its latest annual survey of those consumer trends from a major industry publisher, potatoes, tomatoes and onions top out the list of consumer purchases on the vegetable side, while bananas, apples and strawberries remain the top three sellers in the fruit sector. Consumers also expressed increasing demand across both sectors, with 54% surveyed saying they are eating more fresh produce than a year ago. Forty-six percent said they’re eating more fruits and vegetables than five years ago. See more from the latest produce study.
