The latest USDA Crop Progress report indicates steady progress in corn, soybean, and winter wheat fieldwork, despite scattered rainfall. Warm, dry weather is expected this week to support harvests and further planting.

Corn crop development remains close to average, with 95% of the crop dented and 71% mature. Harvest progress reached 18% complete as of September 28. This represents a 7-point increase from last week, but it is slightly behind the five-year average of 19%. Illinois reports that 21% of the corn crop has been harvested. Iowa lags at 15%. Crop condition remains stable, with 66% rated good to excellent. Ten percent of the crop was rated very poor to poor.

Seventy-nine percent of soybeans are dropping leaves. This is 2% ahead of the 77% five-year average. Harvest progress advanced 10 points to 19%. This trails the five-year average of 20%. Louisiana and Mississippi lead with 78% and 66% harvested, respectively. Kansas is far behind at 5%. Overall, the soybean condition is rated 62% good to excellent. Iowa and Kansas soybeans were rated at 73% and 65% good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting jumped to 34%. This is 2% behind the five-year average of 36%. Washington is leading with 68% planted. South Dakota is second at 60% complete. About 13% of the winter wheat crop has emerged as of September 28.
