Corn harvest is far from finished as November creeps closer. The give top corn-growing states still have at least 50% of their corn left to harvest, according to the latest USDA crop progress report. Delayed harvest progress in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado and Ohio can be attributed to slow corn maturity and rains leading to unsuitable field conditions.
Precipitation totaling more than 2 inches in parts of Pennsylvania also contributed to the delayed harvest for both corn and soybeans while crop conditions continue to decline. Wisconsin harvest conditions have also delayed progress, as USDA reported just 5.6 days were suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Oct. 23. Cold weather, and dry and windy conditions have slowed progress in other states.
