Closeup of Corn SilkingThe USDA Crop Progress report revealed that a season-high 74% of the corn crop was in good to excellent shape as of July 6. The remaining corn crop was rated 21% fair and 5% poor or very poor.

The top 18 corn-growing states reported 18% of the crop had reached the silking stage, 3% ahead of the five-year average. The USDA shared that 3% of the crop across nine states reached the dough stage. This is 1% ahead of the five-year average.

Ninety-six percent of the soybean crop across the top 18 soybean-growing states has emerged. This is 2% behind the five-year average. The USDA reported 8% of the crop in 14 states had reached the setting pods stage. This is 2% ahead of the five-year average. The condition of the soybean crop as of July 6 was 66% good to excellent, 27% fair and 7% poor to very poor.

The winter wheat harvest is well underway with 53% of the crop harvested as of July 6. The condition of the winter wheat crop is reported at 48% good to excellent, 34% fair and 18% poor to very poor.

Sixty-one percent of the spring wheat in the six spring-wheat growing states had headed. The condition of the spring wheat was rated at 50% good to excellent, 35% fair and 15% poor to very poor.
