Corn and soybean planting across the U.S. is still ahead of average despite slightly stalling last week. Corn is 65% planted, a 16-point jump from last week and a whopping 20% better than last year. Iowa and Illinois are 86% and 84% planted, respectively. North Dakota remains far behind at 5%.
Soybeans are 49% planted, 22 points ahead of last year and 13 points ahead of the five-year average. Illinois is 77% completed and Iowa is at 69%. North Dakota again trails at just 2% planted. Emergence is off to a strong start with favorable weather. USDA estimates 30% of corn has emerged as of Sunday, 5 points ahead of the five-year average. Soybean emergence is at 20%, 12 points ahead of last year and 9 points ahead of the five-year average.
