The new year may bring more than resolutions as the 2022 cattle market is showing signs of potentially being bullish. Numbers from the last few weeks of 2021 have seen the markets turn higher, and analysts are recognizing the building optimism for the next marketing year. Domestic and foreign demand for beef has been strong and, with declining cattle numbers, has contributed to a market sweet spot in terms of prices. Packers are also actively chasing cattle for the first time in several months in the wake of tightened market-ready fed cattle supplies.
Those in the beef industry are well aware of the long battle at play in the cattle market and welcome the stronger prices and stability projected for 2022. While supply chain struggles and a pandemic fallout still impact agriculture, industry experts are using “cautious optimism” as a way to describe the state of the cattle market heading into 2022.
