Hurricane Delta is intensifying as it makes landfall in the Gulf, delivering heavy rainfall to coastal areas and inland through Louisiana, eastern Arkansas, Mississippi and into Tennessee and the Bootheel of Missouri. Though cooler water temperatures in the Gulf could weaken the storm as it moves inland, Delta is expected to be in the stronger Category 2 to Category 3 severity range and could bring heavy rainfall to the mid-Atlantic region by Sunday. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest could see heavy rainfall and the Midwest has the potential to face a few storms and scattered showers, while California and the southern Plains look to remain dry as a ridge develops over the western U.S. in the next few days.
