Second only to the United States, China’s corn production is breaking records this year thanks in part to government policies and excellent growing conditions. USDA estimated in the latest WASDE report last week for China to lead the world in corn imports, despite an expected 5% larger harvest than last year. Yet forecasts expect the southeast Asian country to also import 26 million tonnes, on par with last year’s imports. Also 5% above average is China’s corn yields per hectare, largely due to favorable weather. Read more on Chinese corn production and demand.
