Fueling equipmentA recent DTN survey found that nearly 86% of farmers say record-high diesel prices are affecting their farm’s profitability “a great deal” or “moderately” heading into harvest. 46% said the impact is significant, 39% said it is moderate, and 11% called it slight. The online poll ran Sept. 22 to Oct. 8 and drew nearly 150 responses from 22 states and three Canadian provinces.

Concern ran highest in Corn Belt states such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska, and in Northern Plains states such as North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, where long hauls add to fuel use. Though the poll doesn’t address it directly, the new diesel tax relief executive order is expected to ease some of that pressure by allowing dyed diesel on highways through Dec. 31, 2026.
