Much of the Corn Belt is experiencing near-record-breaking temperatures to round out September. The week ending October 2nd is projected to be the second warmest and third driest as harvest speeds up. The drought-stricken plains saw some relief this week with moderate precipitation, even as a flash drought has made its appearance in the southern plains. However, forecasts point to some moisture for the major winter wheat growing region before week’s end. While a dry end to September is generally positive for the pace of harvest, the trend continues a warmer and much drier-than-average growing season for 2021.
