An expert panel shared recommendations for substantial changes to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA Commissioner Robert Califf requested a report from the Reagan-Udall foundation, seeking meaningful reform for FDA food programs. The report, “Operational Evaluation of the FDA Human Foods Program”, calls for a change to the status quo to improve FDA’s ability to protect the public and ensure safe food. Findings in the report validate many criticisms raised by industry leaders in recent months.
The International Fresh Produce Association shared support for the details within the report and aligns with recommendations for “strong, supportive and singular leadership with clear lines of authority” within FDA’s programs.
