Tomato, leafy greens and other farmers have until January 21, 2021, to offer input into a proposed set of regulations designed to bolster traceability and transparency in the supply chain. The FDA New Era of Smarter Food Safety initiative looks to improve the response to foodbourne illness outbreaks and minimize the risk they pose to public health. The targeted sectors have already taken steps toward broader traceability with the Produce Traceability Initiative, a measure instituting “one step forward, one step back” traceability requirements for producers and other industry members.
