Farmers who use atrazine for weed control got some clarity from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency late last week when the agency announced an interim decision that the number-two most-used herbicide in the U.S. and two others in the same category are safe for use. The Friday announcement includes changes for triazine use, including on some application rates, drift control measures and resistance prevention. Officials say the announcement comes at a critical time, as atrazine has seen a resurgence in use in recent growing seasons as more farmers adopt conservation tillage practices.
