After growing customer demands for sustainable products, Goodyear has announced an expansion of its line to six soy-biobased tires. First rolled out primarily for waste haul and city buses, city and fleet managers have expressed interest in the tires for heavy equipment. The sustainable tires use soybean oil in place of the standard petroleum-based oil, helping advance towards the company’s goal of creating a tire made entirely of sustainable materials by 2030, as well as replacing petroleum-derived oils in products by 2040. The company has exceeded its goal of replacing petroleum-based oil with soybean oil by 25%.
Goodyear has stated the performance of the tires does not change whether soybean oil or petroleum-based is used, in fact, it has been shown to enhance traction in rain and snow.
