Maine and Washington State Democratic representatives are leading the charge in the House Ag Committee through a climate and agriculture task force. The goal is to advance climate-smart agriculture in the next farm bill. The development comes as Republicans prepare to take control of the House in 2023.

Many Republican lawmakers are questioning the administration’s plans to advance climate-smart agricultural programs. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack has acknowledged the opposition but says climate change will continue to be a top priority for USDA.
