This year’s Super Bowl will highlight more than the ol’ pigskin. An Illinois pig farmer and his family will be starring in a commercial. Chad Bell and his family are making their television debut in a commercial titled “The Corporation.” The family finishes 4,800 pigs annually and grows 1,200 acres of corn, soybeans, hay, wheat and cover crops in Viola.
The commercial is part of a new campaign comprised of the Illinois Farm Families coalition. The group chose to do the commercial after results from a consumer survey revealed that the state’s consumers think only 46% of Illinois farms are family-owned, as opposed to the majority being corporately owned. The actual number of Illinois farms that are family owned is 96%. Aiming to dispel misperceptions, the ad will air on February 12 during the first half of the Super Bowl in select Illinois markets.
