Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig recently announced the agency’s Cover Crop Insurance Discount will be once again offered to Iowa farmers establishing new cover crop acres this fall. The discount, now in its 5th year, offers growers a $5 per acre discount on their spring crop insurance premiums. Enrollment begins in December and is eligible for any grower not already participating in other state or federal cover crop incentive programs. About 1,700 Iowa farmers have participated in the program, enrolling nearly 700,000 acres of cover crops. The conservation practice reduces soil erosion, suppresses weeds, enriches soil health and ultimately improves water quality. Read more on the Iowa Cover Crop Insurance Discount here.
