An Iowa company seeking to export billions of gallons of groundwater from the Jordan Aquifer to drought-stricken states out west has abandoned its plans for the time being. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has repeatedly rejected proposals from the Pattison Sand Co. due to the fact the proposed export didn’t meet “beneficial use” standards required by state law. According to a report from Successful Farming, the proposal has been a contentious issue among state lawmakers, the state geologist and conservation groups.
