The long-awaited Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission Report was released on Thursday, May 22. The report aims to determine why American children face higher rates of chronic health issues. It recommends additional research and education on diet, environmental exposures, lack of physical activity and overmedicalization.

This report is the first step in an executive order President Trump signed in February. The second part is a policy strategy to address the findings by August.

Many agricultural groups are concerned about how the report was created and its potential impact on U.S. production agriculture. The National Corn Growers Association said it is deeply troubled that claims regarding pesticides are being made without any scientific basis or regard for a long history of EPA expert evaluations.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) strongly rebuked the report for being damaging to consumer confidence in the safety of America’s food system. The ASA said that action on the report would harm U.S. farmers, increase food costs for consumers, and worsen health outcomes for all Americans.

The Modern Ag Alliance said the report could lead to restricted access to essential inputs and undermine existing science-based frameworks. This could affect the affordability and security of America’s food supply.
