Despite a late start to melon season, many areas of the U.S. are seeing excellent-quality production. As much of the U.S. sees warmer temperatures, melon sales are spiking as grocery stores make room for the seasonal favorite.
Because of the warmer weather, harvest started in Florida earlier than usual, in contrast to last year’s late-season freeze. Even so, weather disasters didn’t skip every melon-producing area. Texas lost at least 100 acres to a hailstorm in late March, delaying the Lone Star State’s harvest to mid-June.
