A new report from Texas A&M University revealed that imports of Mexican avocados contributed a record $11.2 billion to the U.S. economy last year. The report found that the impact on total U.S. output increased by nearly 560% in the last 10 years. At the same time, contribution to U.S. gross domestic product increased by nearly 410%.
Since 1997, the avocado supply from Mexico has climbed by more than two billion pounds each year. Mexico is the only region that can meet U.S. avocado demand year-round. The partnership has contributed to jobs and economic output in the U.S. and Mexico, fueling an economic engine that supports farmers of all kinds in the country and supplies a steady stream of avocados to U.S. families.
